Started the day at the very nice Chanthapanya Hotel with 'bizarre and random Indochina breakfast part 3' where spaghetti sat side by side with potato soup and jellied eggs. Thankfully, there was an 'egg station' where I could get an omelette.
Then we met up with our lovely local guide ad visited the Ho Phra Keo museum, the Sisaket Museum and, of course the Pha That Luang. This is the most important national monument in Laos. Dave was certainly impressed, although he was a bit worried about posing in front of what is essentially a tomb.

On our way back to the hotel, I picked up a copy of the Vientiane times and marvelled at cover stories such as "Government to repave road" and opinion pieces bemoaning the fact that an old woman got cheated out of some bricks she'd bought. 'Sleepy' doesn't begin to cover it. I kind of love it.
Lunch was a great Mekhong fish salad for 35,000 kip and a Beer Laos. Love Beer Laos - it's my "first cup of tea beer". May have to buy a t-shirt.
We went back to the Bor Pen Nyang bar to watch the sunset over the Mekhong and drink cocktails. Again. This time, instead of eating, we hit the streets to Sticky Fingers only to find that while their coctails were great (Tom Yum cocktail!) they had no local food (barely any Asian food at all). Disappointed, we tried to find a place with local fare ad, while we found it, it wasn't the best meal I've ever had.
Still a great day and I love this relaxed city.
Note - there are quite extensive night markets in Vientiane but I had it on good authority the ones in Luang Prabang are much better so didn't go there. Still, if you want markets, they're there and extend all along the foreshore.
Price of Beer Laos
Small = 10,000 kip
Large = 12,000 - 15,000 kip
