Leaving Laos

Today was our last day in Laos and we were all a little sad to say goodbye even if we were also excited to see Vietnam.

After feeding the monks, we wandered back through the local market where I did get some gifts for people finally, also allowing me to 'kill my kip' as it's a closed currency. Then I crawled back into bed and the pill supply until we left for the airport to fly to Hanoi.

The flight to Vietnam was comfortable and customs was a breeze (I aready had a visa) but, I have to say... It was raining and about 12 degrees when we got to Hanoi, I was still sick, and as we drove through the miserable, dark, cold and rainy city full of psychotic scooters who didn't seem to know what side of the road they drove on, we all decided on the spot that we hated it. Instantly and completely.
Elegant? Graceful? What are these guide book authors smoking?

Can we go back to Laos now, please?

PS - Random fact about Laos: it's the only country I've been to where you go through customs, get the stamp to say you've left the country and then they let you leave the airport. Not just the customs area because it doesn't have a toilet. No, you can go outside and across the road and to a cafe. Bizarre.
