Little Red Dave does Halong Bay

Photo: View of Halong Bay from the Hang Sung Sot Cave

Halong Bay! How shall I describe Halong Bay? Bay of the Descending Dragon. Thousands of soaring limestone islands jutting upwards into mist and surrounded by cool green water in seas dotted by junks. Tiny, beckoning white sand beaches and eerie limestone caves of ethereal beauty.

Words are inadequate to describe Halong Bay. It is, of course, World Heritage listed.

We just spent a night on a small comfortable boat on Halong Bay, motoring through the bays, drinking wine and eating great seafood, and having a look at one of the area's famous caves.

Also there was karaoke. Probably best not to mention that. I was not drunk. Just for the record. I was almost the only one. There is video evidence, I believe. I'll add it to this blog entry if I get my hands on it. I will say that Paul was caught about 11pm trying to hang over the side of the boat. He was, if I understand correctly, trying to go for a swim but Jola had told him not to get his clothes wet. This was his attempt.

In the morning, mist had descended over the bay. Dave and I stood on the deck photographing the atmospheric bay before a leisurely breakfast and a trip back to Hanoi.
